What I learned this year...
This year, I learned that I am absolutely in love with being a classroom teacher and that I no longer fear the IEP process. I feel comfortable with data collection, PLOPs, and writing goals based on student need. I learned that I love writing IEPs because they are the soul of differentiated instruction. I learned that my students excel when their needs are being met and they have the most fun when I remember to be a mindful teacher.
How do you think you grew?
This year I grew to understand that as much as I love my profession; I need to find a balance between work and my personal life.
How have you changed this year?
I’ll have completed my 4th year teaching by the end of this school year. I feel more confident as a classroom teacher and case carrier. I feel I can stand on my own two feet and that I have crossed the threshold from new teacher to experienced teacher.
Where do you want to direct your growth in the future?
I would like to develop a functional skills program for the preschool students in my classroom who have moderate to severe special needs.
What common themes are you hearing from our learning community?
The common themes I’ve heard from our learning community include behavior management, data collection, and developmentally appropriate instruction.
